Dr. Charles Neimeyer became the IJAA Historian after retiring in 2017 as the Director and Chief of Marine Corps History at Marine Corps University, Quantico. Prior to Quantico, he was the Dean of Academics at the Naval War College (NWC), Vice President of Academic Affairs at Valley Forge Military Academy, a full- time professor of National Security Affairs from 1997-2002 at NWC. He also served as an award-winning history professor at the US Naval Academy and the University of Central Oklahoma where he was named the 1997 Liberal Arts “Outstanding Professor of the Year.”
During his 20 years as an artilleryman in the USMC, he served in a variety of posts and stations including tours in all three active Marine Divisions. He retired in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Neimeyer is a noted author whose most recent book On the Corps was named by Naval Proceedings as one of the top naval history books of 2008. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in History (with distinction) from Georgetown University and an additional master’s degree from the Naval War College.
